You don't have to have it all figured out to Start

Hi, I’m Ellen. If you’re seeking therapy in South Austin, I know, it’s a lot. If you’ve tried therapy before and it felt sterile and scripted, or if you’ve never tried it because the whole idea is overwhelming, that makes sense. This isn’t that. I’ll walk with you through the messy parts and help you find your way forward.

A Thoughtful, Flexible Approach to Therapy

Meet Ellen Fencl, LPC-A

I’m a relational, creative, and flexible therapist who pulls from many tools to meet you where you are. I draw from approaches like CBT, DBT, IFS, and somatic work, but therapy with me doesn’t have to feel clinical or scripted. Some sessions are just talking. Others might involve creative tools, practical skills, or going deeper into what’s underneath the surface.

What you can count on: I’m ruthlessly in your corner. I take this work seriously, and I don’t take myself too seriously. Most of all, I aim to undo alone-ness, because so much of what makes hard things harder is carrying them by yourself. You don’t have to do that here.

Areas I can help with

You don't have to keep carrying this alone. I'm in your corner, and we'll take it at your pace.

Anxiety & overthinking

Looping, intrusive thoughts can feel paralyzing and all-consuming. Together we'll notice the patterns, loosen the grip of rigid thinking, and find some quiet in your head again.

Trauma & Emotional Relief

Trauma doesn't just live in your memories. It shows up in your body, your reactions, your sense of safety. We'll move through it gently, at a pace that actually feels okay, so you can start to feel more at home in yourself.

Burnout & Stress

Life can feel relentless. When you're running on empty, even small things feel impossible. I help you sort out what's actually yours to carry, what isn't, and how to get your energy back.

Identity & Self-Worth

Masking, perfectionism, neurodivergence, the pressure to have it all figured out. It's exhausting trying to be everything for everyone. This is space to figure out who you are underneath all of that, and to like that person.

Relationship Ruptures

Conflicts, miscommunications, and the same fights on repeat can leave you stuck and reactive. I act as an objective third party to help you slow down, see the patterns, and communicate in ways that actually land.

Life Transitions

Big changes (jobs, relationships, moves, becoming a different version of yourself) can knock you sideways. I'll help you find your footing again.

Process

What you can expect when we work together

You can just talk. We’ll go at your pace, and there’s no script you have to follow. Some sessions are heavier, some are lighter, and some might involve getting creative when words aren’t quite cutting it. Think art, sand trays, even a tarot pull if you’re into it. None of it is required, and all of it is on the table.

I’ve been in the hard places too. I won’t rush you or pull you out before you’re ready, but I will sit with you in it and help you find your way forward.

Connect

Reach out and we'll start with a conversation. Low pressure. Just a chance to share what's going on and see if it feels like a good fit.

Process

We'll make sense of what's underneath, build tools that actually work in your real life, and process the stuff that's been heavy to carry.

Thrive

As things start to shift, we'll focus on what's working so you can keep moving forward, with support whenever you need it.

My Path to Becoming a Therapist

Real experience
Real understanding

"Mistakes are our greatest teachers, so I have a world-class education."

I didn’t become a therapist because I had it all figured out. I became one because I didn’t.

A few years ago, I found myself at a crossroads. I was grieving the loss of my brother to suicide and facing deep family trauma. Mental health wasn’t just something I was studying. It was something I was living. And honestly? I didn’t fully believe in therapy before I went to therapy school. But something shifted.

I’ve always been drawn to art, creativity, and trying to understand people. What I found in therapy was real transformation. Not quick fixes, but a way to sit with the hard things, make sense of them, and slowly find a way forward.

That’s what led me here. I know how heavy and isolating it can be to carry hard things, and I care deeply about helping people feel less alone in what they’re holding. You don’t have to navigate it on your own.
